Significance
Ramanuja Jayanti marks the birth of Ramanujacharya, the exponent of Vishishtadvaita Vedanta and the teacher of devotion to Vishnu. It is observed on Chaitra Krishna Panchami.
Mythology & Legend
According to the Divya Suri Charitam, Ramanuja was born in Sriperumbudur (Tamil Nadu). He spread the philosophy of surrender to Vishnu (Saranagati), wrote the Sri Bhasya on the Brahma Sutras, and established the Sri Sampradaya. He is revered in Vaishnava temples across South India.
Rituals & Observances
- At sunrise, take a bath and offer puja to Vishnu or the acharya's image.
- Recite Ramanuja's works or the Gadyatrayam; visit Sri Vaishnava temples.
- Chant the Tiruvaimozhi or Vishnu Sahasranama; offer flowers and tulsi.
