Significance
Chaitra Navratri is the nine-day worship of the Divine Mother in the month of Chaitra (March–April). It ends with Ram Navami. It is observed across India with fasting and puja.
Mythology & Legend
According to the Markandeya Purana, the nine forms of Durga are worshipped during Navratri. Chaitra Navratri is associated with the creation of the universe and the birth of Rama. Each day is dedicated to a form of the goddess.
Rituals & Observances
- At sunrise, perform kalash sthapana and daily puja for nine days.
- Observe vrat (fast) as per tradition; eat only vrat-approved foods.
- On Ashtami or Navami, perform Kanya Puja (worship of nine girls).
- On the tenth day, celebrate Ram Navami or perform havan and break the fast.
