Significance
Ram Navami celebrates the birth of Lord Rama, the seventh avatar of Vishnu and hero of the Ramayana. It falls on Chaitra Shukla Navami.
Mythology & Legend
According to the Ramayana, King Dasharatha of Ayodhya performed a yagna to have children. He received sacred payasam; Queen Kaushalya gave birth to Rama on this day in Ayodhya. Rama is revered as Maryada Purushottam—the ideal king and man.
Rituals & Observances
- At sunrise, take a bath and offer water to the Sun.
- Perform Rama puja with flowers and tulsi; recite Ramayana or Sunderkand.
- Offer Panakam and fruits; observe a satvik diet or fast.
- Visit a Rama temple; participate in processions if in Ayodhya.
- In the evening, perform aarti and distribute prasad.
