Significance

Ramananda Jayanti marks the birth of Ramananda, the Ramanandi saint who preached devotion to Rama and welcomed disciples from all castes. He is considered a bridge between South Indian Vaishnavism and North Indian bhakti.

Mythology & Legend

According to the Bhaktamal and tradition, Ramananda was a disciple of Raghavananda (linked to Ramanuja's lineage). He taught in Varanasi and had disciples like Kabir, Ravidas, and Pipa. He stressed the name of Rama and rejected caste barriers.
