Makhana Kheer

Ingredients

  • Makhana
  • milk
  • sugar
  • cardamom
  • ghee

Preparation Steps

  1. Roast makhana in ghee until crisp
  2. Boil milk and reduce to 3/4 volume
  3. Crush half the makhana, keep rest whole
  4. Add both to milk with sugar and cardamom
  5. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally
  6. Serve warm or chilled
Nutritional Note: Vrat foods are typically sattvic — fresh, light, and easily digestible. They avoid onion, garlic, and regular salt, using sendha namak (rock salt) instead. These foods are designed to keep the body light and the mind focused during fasting.
