Significance

Amalaki Ekadashi falls on Phalgun Shukla Ekadashi. The Amla (Indian gooseberry) tree is worshipped along with Vishnu. It is believed to grant longevity and remove sins.

Mythology & Legend

According to the Brahma Purana, King Chitraratha observed this vrat and worshipped the Amalaki tree. The tree is sacred to Vishnu and is said to have emerged during the churning of the ocean. Worshipping it on this day is considered highly meritorious.

Rituals & Observances

  1. Observe Ekadashi fast; bathe at sunrise.
  2. Water and worship the Amalaki tree; offer flowers, fruits, and incense.
  3. Offer puja to Lord Vishnu under the tree or at home with amla.
  4. Chant Vishnu mantras; break the fast on Dwadashi.
