Significance
Jaya Ekadashi falls in Magha Krishna Paksha. It is observed to overcome sins and attain victory over negative forces. Fasting and Vishnu worship are performed.
Mythology & Legend
According to the Padma Purana, a celestial dancer named Malini observed this vrat and was blessed. The vrat is said to destroy the effect of sins and grant victory (jaya) over obstacles. Indra and other devas also observe it.
Rituals & Observances
- Observe Ekadashi fast (no grains); bathe at sunrise.
- Offer flowers, tulsi, and fruits to Lord Vishnu.
- Chant Vishnu mantras; listen to or read the Ekadashi katha.
- Break the fast on Dwadashi after offering puja.
