Significance
Devutthana Ekadashi marks the day when Lord Vishnu wakes from his four-month sleep. Chaturmas ends and the wedding season begins. Fasting and puja are observed for blessings.
Mythology & Legend
According to the Padma Purana, Vishnu wakes on this day (Kartik Shukla Ekadashi). Devotees celebrate with tulsi vivah (marriage of Tulsi to Vishnu) in some regions. The day is highly auspicious for new beginnings.
Rituals & Observances
- Observe Ekadashi fast; take a bath at sunrise.
- Offer tulsi, flowers, and fruits to Vishnu; perform Tulsi Vivah if in tradition.
- Chant Vishnu mantras; break the fast on Dwadashi after puja.
- In some regions, Tulsi plant is decorated and married to the Shaligram.
