Significance
Masik Shivaratri is the monthly Shivaratri observed on the Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi of every month. Devotees fast and worship Shiva at night for his blessings.
Mythology & Legend
According to the Shiva Purana, the night of Chaturdashi is sacred to Shiva. Monthly observance is said to please him and remove obstacles. The great Maha Shivaratri is the most significant of these monthly nights.
Rituals & Observances
- Observe a full-day or fruit-and-milk fast until the next morning.
- Offer bilva leaves, milk, honey, and flowers to the Shiva Lingam.
- Chant Om Namah Shivaya; perform four prahars of puja if possible.
- Keep vigil at night; break the fast after sunrise.
