Significance

Chaturthi is the fourth lunar day, ruled by Ganesha (remover of obstacles) and Yama (dharma of time). In Shukla Paksha it is honoured as Vinayaka ChaturthiGanesh Chaturthi of Bhadrapada being the grandest. Krishna Chaturthi is observed as Sankashti Chaturthi / Sankatahara Chaturthi, a monthly fast for removal of obstacles.
