Presiding deity: Ganesha and Yama
Chaturthi is the fourth lunar day, ruled by Ganesha (remover of obstacles) and Yama (dharma of time). In Shukla Paksha it is honoured as Vinayaka Chaturthi — Ganesh Chaturthi of Bhadrapada being the grandest. Krishna Chaturthi is observed as Sankashti Chaturthi / Sankatahara Chaturthi, a monthly fast for removal of obstacles.
