Significance

Ekadashi is the eleventh lunar day, presided over by the Vishvedevas; its vrat is dedicated to Vishnu. The most important fasting day in the Hindu calendar, observed twice monthly. Devotees abstain from grains and beans, focusing on prayer, japa, and meditation. There are 24 named Ekadashis across the year — Nirjala, Devshayani, Vaikuntha, Devutthana, and many more — each with its own Puranic story and merit.
